Inaugural Sondeka Awards Held at Lous Leaky Auditorium

For the misfits, the nuts in the bolt boxes, the darers and doers, the little eccentric, the ones who colour out of the lines and the ones who give life new perspective…

The first ever Sondeka Awards were a rousing success! Creatives Garage under their new project “Sondeka Awards” began receiving submissions for the awards on February 15th 2018. Categories available for nominee slots were: Dance, Alternative/¬Experimental music, Poetry and Spoken word, Traditional Art, Digital Art, Short Stories, Live Bands, and Online Radio and Podcasts. After a grueling selection round, the list of 130 was whittled down to 31 using the following criteria: creativity of technique and process, execution, quality of craft, innovation and the overall experience of the craft. Following this voting was open to the public from 14th March 2018 and ends on 24th March 2018 to select the final winners via

The Sondeka Awards would not have been possible without the support of The Swedish Embassy in Kenya,  Xpose Event Solutions, Brand Kenya, Brand Africa, Taxify and the Bloggers Association of Kenya. Creatives garage in particular would like to thank:

  • Sweden’s Deputy Ambassador to Kenya – Fredrik Folkunger
  • Mary Luseka – CEO of Brand Kenya
  • Edward Sigei – Senior Legal Counsel KECOBO
  • Marek Fuchs – Manager of Sauti Sol
  • Nekesa Were – Director of Community iHub Nairobi
