USING FICTION TO EXPLORE CONTEMPORARY ISSUES

Mutendei Writes (Elias Nabutete) is a Kenyan  writer, with Kenyan & Canadian life experiences. He writes & performs under the pen name Mutendei Writes: as an artistic writer, using original, creative & structured writing. Mutendei covers unique, genre inspired material, moving beyond the limiting modern day mainstream spectrum of content. Circumnavigating & interweaving modern & cultural inclinations, with vivid storylines, Mutendei Writes artistically creates written & Spoken Word Poetry, along with short stories.

He has written four unique books; The Poetry Express, The IdeaBankisms, Shadow Walkers & Everything Mutendei. Mutendei has also maintained monthly website releases on https://mutendeiwrites.wordpress.com/, adding to his works, while enabling others to pursue their literary goals.

Mutendei expounds on areas under & misrepresented, manifesting trailblazing characters & subject matter, to popularize literary content that should be mainstream. Each of Mutendei’s books reveals different perspectives & experiences, linked to his character and a reflection of the world, environment & art industry at the time of writing.

As a writer he develops themes based on contemporary issues relating to prevalent circumstances in society and societal challenges which he manifests as different characters and complex landscapes. Concurrently he also creates narratives that embody underrepresented or unchartered material. Mutendei feels that creative art should always be exploratory and innovative, challenging, and platform for social and intellectual development.

Writers are meant to provide a measure of individual and social consciousness, and a medium of societal self-examination. Comic illustrators visually fulfill this educative role, using pictures instead of prose that writers would,” Mutendei explains.

The adept writer, with over 7 years of experience, draws inspiration from real life occurrences, epiphanies, social discussions, historical records and mythological legends. “One real life situation that inspired me was the Harlem Renaissance of Art, which I ended up writing a tribute short story in relation to the Renaissance, paying homage to it,” says Mutendei.

His ultimate dream project would be to make an animation and live action movie of my comic series Shadow Walkers. He enjoys the dynamism of writing, it’s timeless nature and it’s flexibility in transcending multiple platforms. One of the biggest challenges he has faced has been  maintaining regularly consistency in writing, along with keeping up with current interests of the reading audiences. He, however, motivates other writers by sharing the best piece of advice has received. That is;Don’t quit, your next story can always be greater than the last.

HIS CURRENT BOOKS (AVAILABLE ON AMAZON AND MOOKH) ARE:
